Stimulation of Defense Reactions in Medicago truncatula by Antagonistic Lipopeptides from Paenibacillus sp. Strain B2

ABSTRACT With the aim of obtaining new strategies to control plant diseases, we investigated the ability of antagonistic lipopolypeptides (paenimyxin) from Paenibacillus sp. strain B2 to elicit hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ) production and several defense-related genes in the model legume Medicago truncatula . For this purpose, M. truncatula cell suspensions were used and a pathosystem between M. truncatula and Fusarium acuminatum was established. In M. truncatula cell cultures, the induction of H 2 O 2 reached a maximum 20 min after elicitation with paenimyxin, whereas concentrations higher than 20 μM inhibited H 2 O 2 induction and this was correlated with a lethal effect. E’ stata condotta un’indagine per isolare batteri sporigeni associati ad adulti morti di Rhynchophorus ferrugineus. La carica microbica riscontrata, sia quella superficiale che endogena, risulta essere elevata (107 UFC/gr). Gli isolati sono riconducibili al genere Bacillus. La produzione di cristalli parasporali, potenziali δ-endotossine, è stata utilizzata come parametro fondamentale per lo screening delle colture. SUMMARY Background: The aim of the present study was to compare MALDI-TOF results for the identification of 87 lactobacilli, isolated from soft or hard carious dentin from 70 first molars of 7- to 8-year-old children with those obtained by species-specific PCR. Inactivation of dried spores of Bacillus subtilis 168 by a treatment combining high temperature and pressure

International audience; Specific treatments combining high temperatures of up to 150 °C and moderate pressure of up to 0.6 MPa have been applied to Bacillus subtilis 168 spores conditioned at different aw levels (between 0.10 and 0.70) corresponding to different residual water contents within the spore core. Diversity of Lactobacillus species in deep carious lesions of primary molars

AIM: This was to determine the prevalence of Lactobacilli (LB) species in different stages of caries progression and are considered as secondary invaders of existing carious lesions and specialists for caries progression. METHODS: Carious dentine samples were collected from 70 primary molars (M) during step-wise (S1, S2: n = 35 M) or one-step (O1: n = 35 M) caries treatment and after 11 months of temporary restorations (S3, O2). Activity of bacterial seed endophytes of landrace durum wheat for control of Fusarium foot rot

Five bacterial endophytic isolates obtained from durum wheat seeds (landrace “Timilia reste nere”) and identified as belonging to Pantoea (isolates A1, F7, F15 and G1) and Paenibacillus (isolate B) genera on the basis of 16S rDNA gene sequences, were assayed in vitro and in vivo for their ability to inhibit Fusarium culmorum growth and the disease (Fusarium foot rot) it causes in durum wheat. All isolates significantly reduced in vitro growth of F. culmorum in comparison with the control.
